Every
Thursday, you’ll get this short, fun, relevant newsletter. It will contain a
quote or smile about the library and those who love it, an idea you can use to
promote your library or reading in general, and an occasional shameless plug
for the programs I offer. Enjoy!
If
you are new to us or have missed any previous issues, you can read them all at www.smartlibrarians.com. And, please; tell your friends about
it!

The Biggest Classroom

If They Only Knew!

not Too Late!
The Biggest Classroom
The
person with the biggest classroom in the school has a BIG job! You have to
serve the needs of the youngest students to the oldest. You have to help the first-year
teacher as well as the 30 year veteran. You are there at the last minute when
the superintendent shows up and decides to read to a class, but she didn’t
bring a book. You rescue those with tech problems and are a hero to the kid who
has finished one series and is looking for another one.
What
you do matters to a lot of people. It’s a good thing that you are so amazing!
Keep up the good work!
Quotable!
“Reading is everything.
Reading makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something, learned something,
become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to
talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention
deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of
escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things
up, and it’s a way of making contact with someone else’s imagination after a
day that’s all too real.”

If They Only Knew! – Marketing your Media
Center
Media
centers and media specialists are underappreciated and misunderstood. Many
people in your school and most of your school boards do not have a real grasp
of the VALUE you and your classroom bring to the campus and the educational
process.
At
the local level, there is only ONE person who can change this misperception – YOU!
The solution is MARKETING! Marketing is everything you do to place your
products and services in the hands of people who would benefit from using them.
It’s not just advertising, though that’s part of it. It includes the hours you
are open, the services you provide and the way they are offered, and perhaps
most importantly, the story that is told about your media center. Over the next
three weeks we will look at:
-
Your
market (people)
-
Your
products/services
-
The
ways your products and services can benefit the people you have identified as
your market
